Here are answers to some of the frequently asked questions about InDaisy Reader.

General

What is InDaisy Reader?

InDaisy Reader is an electronic book reader on iPhone OS that supports playback of multimedia Daisy e-books. Currently, InDaisy Reader supports playback of most of the flavors of e-books that comply with DAISY 2.02 and DAISY 3 standard.

What is DAISY?

DAISY stands for Digital Accessible Information SYstem. It is an Open Multimedia electronic publication format that allows synchronized playback of audio, text, image and video. You can learn more about the DAISY standard at Daisy Consortium website.

What types of DAISY e-books are supported by InDaisy Reader?

InDaisy Reader supports unencrypted DAISY 2.02 and DAISY 3 e-books that have:

- Full audio and full text

- Full audio with partial text

- Full text and some audio

- Full text and no audio

- Full Audio with TOC

Please note that currently InDaisy Reader does not support Audio only Daisy books. This feature will be added in future release.

Can I use InDaisy Reader to read DAISY books from Bookshare?

Yes. InDaisy Reader can open both password protected and unprotected Daisy books from Bookshare.

Simply use iTunes File Sharing or FTP methods to transfer your Bookshare Daisy zip file into InDaisy Reader. If the file is password protected, you will be prompted for the password when you tap on the book in the Bookshelf.

Can I adjust the reading speed of Daisy Books on InDaisy Reader?

Yes. For adjusting the reading speed of the Daisy book, tap the Voice Settings button to access slider to change the speaking rate.

If you use the built in VoiceOver feature of the iPhone OS to speak out the text on the screen, you can adjust the reading speed by doing the following.

1. Visit the the VoiceOver settings page by go to Settings > General > Accessibility > VoiceOver

2. Scroll down to the Speaking Rate slider section

3. Select the Speaking Rate slider, flick up/down with one finger in increase/decrease reading speed.

Can I delete Daisy books from InDaisy Reader?

Yes. Tap the Edit button on InDaisy Reader's Bookshelf and choose the book you wish to delete.

My Daisy book does not show up on the Bookshelf of InDaisy Reader. Why?

If you have just transferred your DAISY e-books onto InDaisy Reader, press the Refresh button on the top right hand corner of InDaisy Reader's Bookshelf.

Otherwise, a problem might have occurred during the book unzipping process. To fix the problem:

1. Completely close most of the applications that is running in the background of your iOS device. This can be done by double clicking the home button and do a long hold on the application you wish to close. Then, select the application to close it.

2. Use the FTP client to login to InDaisy Reader's FTP server and remove any directories created by My_Daisy_Book.zip and also remove the My_Daisy_Book.zip file itself.

3. Use the FTP client to transfer the unzipped folder that contains My_Daisy_book onto InDaisy Reader.

4. Go to InDaisy Reader's Bookshelf and press the Refresh button on the top right corner of the screen.

VoiceOver

Can I use the built in VoiceOver feature of iOS to listen to my Daisy books on InDaisy Reader?

Yes. You can use VoiceOver to listen to those Daisy books that do not come with pre-recorded audio.

VoiceOver does not seems to read out the names of the buttons. Why?

Just make sure that you start VoiceOver before you open InDaisy Reader. In this way, VoiceOver will be able to speak out all the names of buttons correctly.

What are the known issues of current version of InDaisy Reader?

Following are the list of known issues that we are actively working on to resolve within the current version of InDaisy Reader.

1. Images in Daisy 2.02 e-books may not be scaled correctly.
